Hackteria Workshop

8 — 12 Mar 2011

Suomenlinna, Helsinki

Led by Marc R. Dusseiller (CH) & Andy Gracie (UK)

In collaboration with Pixelache Festival

This was an experimental maker-workshop with multi layered outcomes, intended for people interested in DIY-biology, microscopy and simple technological interaction with living micro-organisms, for example through sound. Participants became involved in sourcing and isolating micro-organisms from the environment and developing open hardware and software environments with which these organisms could be both viewed and become the subjects for simple interactions. A primary aim of the activity was to demonstrate that scientific/artistic experimentation can take place within the DIY and open source domains, and that biology and custom made electronics and software can be friends.
